Mark Morris Dance Group

Who We Are

Founded in 1980 by choreographer Mark Morris, the mission of the Mark Morris Dance Group is to create, promote, and sustain dance, music, and opera works by Morris while serving as a cultural resource to engage and enrich communities. Based in Brooklyn, NY, the Mark Morris Dance Group is hailed as “the preeminent modern dance organization of our time” (Yo-Yo Ma). Our commitment to artistic excellence is matched by a deep investment in access and equity through the Mark Morris Dance Center, a hub for arts education, wellness, and community engagement, and Dance for PD®, a research-backed initiative serving people living with Parkinson's. We engage more than 85,000 people annually through performances, education, and public engagement.

Our Dance Center in Brooklyn

In the heart of the Brooklyn Cultural District, the Mark Morris Dance Center, established in 2001, serves as a vibrant hub for dance and music education in Brooklyn. Our nine-studio facility offers affordable, inclusive classes in a variety of genres for people of all ages, skill levels, and abilities, accompanied by live music. With studios, a performance space, a Wellness Center, and other ancillary spaces, the Dance Center provides resources to the community and nonprofit organizations at subsidized rates. Our Community Education Programs collaborate with public and private schools, community centers, and senior centers to offer tailored dance experiences. Additionally, our Dance for PD® program provides specialized workshops for individuals with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers, reaching communities across all five boroughs through both in-person and virtual programming.
